Elsa Beskow

Elsa Beskow (1874–1953) wrote and illustrated some of the best-loved picture books in Swedish children's literature. Her world is full of forest paths, flowers, seasons and small characters — gnome children, blueberry men and aunts in every colour — where the magical and the everyday share the same page.

In Elsa Beskow's books, words and pictures belong together: the illustrations matter as much as the text. That is why her books are so lovely to share, slowly, pointing out everything you discover.

Some of her best-known books

  • The Tale of the Little Little Old Woman (1897)
  • Peter in Blueberry Land (1901)
  • Children of the Forest (1910)
  • Aunt Green, Aunt Brown and Aunt Lavender (1918)

This list shows some of Elsa Beskow's best-known books — not what is already published here.
