The moonbeam Luma glides in through a window left ajar to watch over a sleeping child -- and make sure the night stays safe and good.
Luma was a little moonbeam who shimmered softly across the sky every evening. She loved visiting earth to watch over children as they slept, and this night she noticed a window left slightly open.
Inside the room lay a child, shifting a little in their sleep. Luma slipped in like a thread of light and saw at once that something was missing.
The moonbeam's little mission
The teddy bear was on the floor! The little friend that was usually held close at night had drifted far from the child's arm. Luma floated down and looked at it with concern.
"No one can sleep well without their friend," Luma whispered softly. π
She gathered a warm glimmer of moonlight and gently lifted the teddy bear back into bed. The child breathed deeper, their shoulders relaxed, and a small smile appeared in their sleep.
"There nowβ¦ the dreams will be good," she said, laying a calm veil of light over the pillow. β
Luma drifted around the room a little to check that everything was as it should be. She saw shoes scattered every which way, a little chair turned the wrong way, and a night lamp shining a bit too brightly.
"Hmm⦠maybe a little too bright for soft dreams," she murmured, dimming the light with her silver fingertip.
The child seemed even calmer now. Their breathing grew steady, and Luma thought she heard a small, happy murmur. She drifted closer and saw the child's hand clutching the teddy bear's ear as if it were the most important thing in the world.
On her way to the window, Luma paused for a moment and looked out over the room. She found it so cozy that she almost stayed a little longer.
"I'm always here, even when you can't see me," Luma whispered before flying out into the night. π
When she finally returned to the moon, the other moonbeams danced around her. They knew Luma had helped a child fall peacefully asleep -- and that was the finest thing a moonbeam could do.
THE END
π¬ What can we learn from this story? Comfort is often found in small things -- a teddy bear, a calm light, or someone watching over us. When we take care of what matters, the night always feels a little calmer. π
