Felix and Ivy cross the feared 'Bridge of Mist' on Halloween and end up in a hidden, magical realm they must solve a riddle to escape.
On the outskirts of a small Norwegian town stood an old bridge that no one dared to cross, especially not on Halloween. The bridge was worn and overgrown with moss, and its crooked posts jutted up like silent guardians. Rumor had it that the bridge was enchanted, and that anyone who dared cross it on Halloween never came back. The children in town called it "the Bridge of Mist."
Felix and Ivy, two best friends, loved mysteries. "What if we find out whether the rumors are true?" Felix suggested one cold October evening.
"That sounds scary," answered Ivy β and reached for her coat.
They packed a backpack with flashlights, a notebook, and a little chocolate for courage, and set off toward the bridge. The moon hung low in the sky, and the mist was already gathering around them as they got closer.
"Do you see that light over there?" Ivy whispered, pointing toward the bridge.
A faint, pulsing light flickered through the mist. Felix nodded, and they moved closer. The bridge's old wooden planks creaked under their feet. But there was something strange about the light. It seemed to lead them onward, like an invisible hand.
A Hidden Realm
When they reached the middle of the bridge, the mist grew so thick they could barely see each other. Suddenly it seemed as though the world around them changed. The light ahead of them grew, and the bridge beneath their feet disappeared. They now stood on a path of glittering stones leading into a magical forest.
"What's happening?" Ivy whispered, her eyes wide with wonder.
"I think we've found out why people never come back," answered Felix, staring at the mysterious surroundings.
The forest was filled with glowing creatures drifting between the trees. Some looked like butterflies, but they were made of pure energy. Others were like floating orbs of light. In the middle of the forest stood an old, golden tree with roots stretching far out across the ground.
"Do you see that tree? It looks like it's the center of all this," said Ivy.
They walked carefully toward the tree. When they reached it, they discovered an inscription in the bark: "Whoever understands this forest will find the way out."
"What does that mean?" asked Felix. "Is this a riddle?"
Ivy crouched down and began copying the roots into her notebook. They were shaped like a map, but she couldn't quite decipher it.

A Way Home
As they studied the map, the mist began closing in around them. "Look here," said Ivy. "I think this is a way out, but we have to follow it carefully."
They followed the lines on the map, which led them to a glowing portal hidden among the trees. But just as they got close, a large shadow appeared before them. A glowing sentinel, shaped like a wolf made of stars, stepped into their path.
"Who wishes to cross?" it asked in a deep, resounding voice.
"We just want to go home," said Felix. "We didn't mean to disturb anything."
"To cross, you must answer this," said the wolf. "What can be shared, yet remains your own?"
Ivy thought hard. She had heard something like this before. "A secret!" she shouted.
The wolf smiled faintly, and the portal opened. "You have passed," it said, and stepped out of their way.
Felix and Ivy ran through the portal and found themselves back on the bridge, as if nothing had happened. But they knew they would never look at "the Bridge of Mist" the same way again.
"Do you think anyone will believe us?" asked Felix.
"Maybe not," answered Ivy with a smile. "But we know what's hiding there."
"Next time you see a mysterious bridge, remember: some things are meant to remain a mystery."
