Mathias loses his first tooth and tucks it under his pillow, determined to stay awake until the tooth fairy comes -- but sleep wins out, and morning brings a golden surprise.
This story is for the magical moment when the tooth fairy comes.
It was a quiet evening in the village, and darkness had settled over the little houses with their glowing windows. In the small house at the end of the road sat seven-year-old Mathias, rocking a loose tooth back and forth and checking it with his tongue every few seconds. It had been loose for several days, and now it was finally time for the big event.
"Mathias, be careful not to swallow your tooth!" said Mom, sitting beside him with a cup of tea.
Mathias laughed and tried to pull it out, but it wasn't as easy as he thought. After a while, Dad took over and helped with a gentle tug. The tooth came out, and Mathias held it up like a treasure.
"I lost my first tooth!" he shouted proudly.
Mom fetched a small box with a drawing of a tooth on the lid. She explained that if Mathias put the tooth under his pillow, the tooth fairy would come and trade it for a coin, or maybe something magical.
"But remember, you have to sleep deeply. The tooth fairy only comes when all children are asleep," she said with a sly smile.
The Night of Anticipation
Mathias hopped into bed without being asked twice. He carefully placed the tooth in the box and tucked it under his pillow. His thoughts buzzed with what the tooth fairy might look like. Maybe she was as small as a bird, or maybe she had a glittering, fairy-tale light around her.
As he lay there, he began to hear small sounds outside the window. It was just the wind rustling in the trees, but Mathias imagined it was the tooth fairy's wings.
"I have to stay awake," he whispered to himself. "Just to see her."
His eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and before he knew it, he fell asleep. Outside the house, the moon shone brightly, and a faint glow moved toward his window. A small figure with glowing wings flew gently in and landed on his nightstand.
The tooth fairy opened the box and looked at the little tooth with a smile. She placed a shining gold coin in its place and sprinkled a little stardust over his bed before flying on to the next child.

A Magical Morning
When Mathias woke up the next morning, he quickly lifted the pillow. There lay the coin, bright and shiny, just as Mom had said. He ran down to the kitchen with the coin in his hand.
"The tooth fairy was here! She took my tooth and gave me a gold coin!" he shouted eagerly.
Mom and Dad smiled at each other over their cups. Mathias sat down at the breakfast table and began planning what he'd do with the coin.
"Maybe I can buy a new sketchpad?" he suggested.
Later that day, he showed the coin to his friends, who also shared their own stories about the tooth fairy. Some had gotten little gifts, others had gotten coins. Everyone agreed that the tooth fairy had to be one of the most magical creatures there were.
When evening came, Mathias sat by the window and looked up at the stars. He wondered where the tooth fairy was now, and who she might be visiting.
"Maybe she's on her way to Jonas's house," he thought, and smiled to himself.
He curled up under the covers and fell asleep still smiling.
