A village has lost its Christmas spirit after a long, hard winter. The snowflakes decide to help -- and set out to find the light of Christmas.
High up in the sky, over mountains and valleys, the snowflakes drifted on the wind. Every snowflake was unique, shaped with delicate patterns that sparkled like diamonds in the moonlight. They always looked forward to winter, when they could settle down to earth and cover the landscape in a soft, white blanket. But this winter was different.
In a small village deep in the mountains, it was dark and quiet. The villagers, who usually filled the streets with song and laughter at Christmastime, had lost their spirit. A long, hard winter had worn down their strength, and no one had the energy to decorate for Christmas. No Christmas trees, no lights, no warm carols.
The snowflakes could not bear to drift on past such a dark village. They gathered in a big, glittering cloud above the rooftops to make a plan.
"We must find the light of Christmas," said one large snowflake, turning slowly in the middle of the cloud. "It will bring joy back to the village."
The Journey for Light
The snowflakes split into groups and drifted outward. Some flew toward the deepest forests, others over the highest mountain peaks, and some settled onto frozen lakes. Everywhere they went, they searched for traces of the magical lights.
A small group of snowflakes drifted over an old, abandoned village. There they spotted a faded sign pointing toward a valley hidden behind a thick forest. The snowflakes followed the arrow and soon found their way to a valley that glowed faintly in the dark. In the middle of the valley stood an old Christmas tree, decorated with lights that never went out.
The lights were golden and warm, and their glow spread a calm, magical feeling across the valley. The snowflakes gathered around the tree and whispered to each other in excitement.
"This is the light of Christmas!" they said in unison.
A Magical Return
The snowflakes knew they had to bring the lights back to the village. They surrounded the tree and carried the lights carefully with the help of the wind. The journey was long, and more than once the wind faltered and they had to begin again.
When they reached the village, the lights began to glow brighter. The wind set the first one down on a snowy rooftop, and it held fast and burned steady. The snowflakes carried the next ones to the small Christmas trees the villagers had left out in the cold, and branch after branch woke up in gold. By the time the last light reached the square, the whole village was shining.
The Joy of Christmas Returns
The villagers woke to the sight of the lights and the snowflakes dancing in the air. They gathered out on the square, where a large tree stood decorated with the magical lights. People laughed, cried with joy, and began singing Christmas carols. The children played in the snow, and the elders told stories about the spirit of Christmas.
A little boy, his cheeks glowing from the cold, asked his mother:
"How did the lights get here?"
His mother smiled and answered:
"It's the magic of Christmas. The snow carried it all the way down the valley for us."
The snowflakes drifted over the village and watched the singing rise up to meet them. Then they settled gently on hats and shoulders and open, upturned hands.
The Moral of the Story

Even the smallest and most fragile can bring light and hope to the darkest times, as long as they act with heart and care.
